Happy New Year Friends and Family!
Take a moment to breathe! Feel your belly and lungs expand as you inhale through your nose. As you exhale your breath, allow the relaxation to happen in your chest and belly. Notice your breath a few more times in this moment and settle your mind, body, spirit for a brief snippet of time….ahhh….
The New Year brings us all opportunities and challenges. On the one hand, this time marks new beginnings, a chance to renew, to start something that we’ve been wanting to do. The excitement of the opportunities ahead can bring us new energy and motivation! On the other hand, the excitement of all the opportunities may bring a sense of overwhelm or bring up the sense of not feeling up for the task of setting goals “because….fill in the blank for yourself”. Sigh! Of course, likely we have a combination of these thoughts and feelings. Each day we continue to move forward in one way or another.
Challenge: A simple (or maybe not so simple) challenge that I am doing for myself for these next days is a 9-days purge of physical items – 27 items a day for 9 days. Yesterday I began with something simple, extra items that had been piling up on my shelves for who knows how long! Easy peasy… Today I just chose another easy spot, my desk, a place I’ve been wanting to get to for months, or maybe since the beginning of last year! Yikes! The clean desk sure makes writing this much more freeing! Tomorrow…. maybe a little tougher spot, my closet… twenty-seven items for nine days! The opportunity is to get rid of so much stuff that I don’t use or need! Wonderful! The challenge is making the time to go through all these things that keep piling up! I can do it! Wish me luck!
The reality is that we are all doing our best in any given moment or for any situation. We are living, breathing, moving, doing, being. We are energy! We are in the light and sometimes, we are in the dark. We simply are who we are. Sometimes we need a boost of support from others, and other times we can self-motivate. Sometimes we don’t speak up; other times we share our truth.
Be in this moment now. Allow yourself to notice your body and mind, what you’re feeling and thinking and allow those thoughts and feelings to pass freely. Know that you are loved! You are supported!
