Harmony
In the midst of my life I am honored and welcome to all that life has to share. As I write, I am interrupted by my next-door neighbor. She’s a sweet young gal who looks up to me in varying ways. We’ve known her since she was five years old. I stop my writing for a moment to greet her and let her know that she’s important to me. A few years ago I might not have been so conscientious about this, but now I realize how much of an impact a person can have on any given situation. I feel more in harmony with life now than ever before.
What is harmony? That’s a million dollar question maybe. The definition of harmony is “friendly agreement”. I mostly think of harmony musically, as notes within a chord are sung together to create a harmony of pleasantness in sound. If I take these definitions and descriptions and put them together I realize why I chose the topic of harmony.
Do you have harmony in your life? Harmony with nature? Harmony with your family and friends? What I have noticed is that the more in harmony that I am with life the more often synchronicities occur, or perhaps the more I notice them. When I feel in accord with the universe, things seem to fall into place.
Just now my neighbor came for a summer application for a youth conservation corps of which I’m currently the Board President. My husband and I have been talking with her about this group and opportunity for the last several years and now she’s finally of the age to work with the group. If I hadn’t been writing this afternoon we wouldn’t have seen each other and she wouldn’t be ready to begin with the crew next week. All is in harmony as I write this. I also sent her home with some herbal tincture for her dog’s skin and some freshly picked green beans from our garden. If she hadn’t come, we wouldn’t have had the generous interaction we just had. If I’d still been in the garden, I wouldn’t have been able to share my garden abundance. See how easy it is?
What I’ve found for myself is that being in harmony is much like going with the flow. I have always tried to ‘go with the flow’, but sometimes over my life I discovered that I was ‘trying’ too hard. Instead I ‘tried’ to go with the flow instead of actually ‘going with the flow’. ‘Going with the flow’ is much simpler and more fulfilling. Being in harmony is really easy when you give yourself permission to do it, to let go of all of the stigma, expectations, worries, anxieties and fears that you have about any given situation.
Harmony is about expending your energy in a way that flows rather than a way that creates discord and problems. Harmony is finding the happiness any given situation and making the most of it where it is, rather than trying to make something work by force.
Set an intention for harmony in your life. Give harmony a chance. The ego in you may think it’s too hard so you may give up on it. Really though, we are creatures of habit so it may take some practice to allow harmony to flow from you, within you and outwardly towards others, but if you make it a focus, then it will happen. Blessings.
