Goat Updates and More
Wow, it’s really hard to believe it’s only been a month since my last blog! The summer energy magnifies every action and time seems even more unknown than ever.
There is so much to write about and yet, the reality is that I only have twenty minutes to ‘pump’ something out. This is one small example of the last month. My biological clock has been ticking, not in a getting older kind of way (although, I am getting more gray hairs), but in a “I’ve got to get this done now, because there’s no other time to do it” kind of way.
So, here’s the down and dirty, so to speak…the goats are great! The mama, Tilly, did end up having worms. Every time we walked over to her she seemed like a hungry new-born baby just finding his mom’s breast for the first time. Luckily, I had herbs on-hand that I use in my anti-parasitic formula that I mixed together. We fed her for a week this herbal combination in powder form in her food twice daily. She looks great now! Her weight seems to be maintaining well and she’s happy. Her anxiety has been cut in half and her sweetness has amplified. She had me laughing so hard a few days ago watching her and her baby, Venus, running around jumping on top of the large wooden obstacle exercise box.
Shifting gears just a little, my husband, our daughter and mom-in-law went on a long road trip recently to Montana. We settled at the Northern Cheyenne Reservation for four days and five nights as we participated in a wonderfully healing prayer gathering with the 13 Indigenous Grandmother’s Council. Astonishingly enough, all of the 700-1000 people there left in a more ‘healed’ way. Words cannot justify any explanation of this life-changing event. I’ll just say this: I was sad to leave the ‘reality’ of life in that way to return to our ‘unreality’ of this life as we all know it. And, my life is filled with homestead living on a island with large gardens, goats, small herbal business life, kayaking, singing, chanting and walking our labyrinth, pretty amazing lifestyle I’d say!
Now up to the present moment in time…some of our best friends are visiting us from Minnesota and our Oregon friend came up for the weekend. These friends are like the siblings that you would choose to be your brothers and sisters (no offense to our siblings). Spending time with these fun-loving, laughing friends is like not having to talk at all, but the five of us already know and agree with the other one about the topic coming up next. Don’t get me wrong, I know we have our differences, but our core selves are deeply connected and recognizable within each of us. We are living together in a higher state of reality, one of full understanding, awareness and acceptance. The week has been refreshing and rejuvenating for our souls, as well as packed full of shared escapades on the water in our kayaks, in the garden harvesting onions and potatoes, catching up on my herbal business, bottling CA Poppy, Valerian, Calendula, Nature’s Antibiotic tinctures (today we’re making Dear Friend-Arnica/St John’s Wort, and Sensuality Salves).
This weekend we’re heading down to the Hood Canal for our Goddaughter’s (and niece) wedding ceremony that I’ll be performing. The cycling of life brings me back to sharing in a sacred way a wedding celebration. Our MN friends had us perform and share in their sacred marriage only two summers ago and here we are all together continuing to build our lives together from afar.
Ooops, my twenty minutes turned into half and hour…I must start the rest of my day…the goats are calling for their morning grains. I’ll have to upload photos later of our wonderful friends and Montana trip.
Blessings,
Susie
i would need more info, i’m not an expert on goats, just learning myself, but maybe they’ve eaten something they shouldn’t have. contrary to popular belief, goats do not eat everything and there are things that are poisonous for goats, like ferns for example…also many folks keep billy’s and female goats separate for the smell factor, but it sounds like your goats are companions for each other…they are very social animals and need others around….no book yet, but stay posted on that…cheers, susie
