Listening to Yourself
I recently made a pact with myself, to be more attentive and mindful in my interactions with others. I listened to myself and discovered that I was not quite the listener that I’d wanted to be lately. Spring is here and there is much to do in the garden, keeping my herbal business going, singing, daily life chores, etc…did I mention that I’m about to be a grandma? Anyway, if I’d not made this agreement with myself, as I was quietly listening to myself, I would not be writing about this.
I just had an amazing conversation with a woman, who shared some lovely insights about herself. She was curious about all that I wanted to share with her that might be helpful to her healing. I sent her a meditation and affirmation to try daily. “I am whole, I am calm, I am love”. When I talked with her today she said “I hope you don’t mind. I also added ‘I am fearless’”. “I love it”, I stated with a smile from ear-to-ear, from the other end of the telephone.
She listened to herself, her messages that she knew she needed. Later in our conversation she shared numerous other small, yet significant, pieces that her body, mind and spirit were telling her. She is listening to herself too!
Sometimes I get so caught up in my own little world, inside my monkey mind, that when I’m with others, including those closest to me, like my husband, family and friends, I am not engaged as attentively as I’d like to be. Sometimes, not always, thankfully, I am about half-way listening, while my mind is thinking of the other tasks or my own process. Yes, I’ll admit that my own mind can be Attention-Deficit at times.
So, as I sat still awhile a few days ago, what came to me was simply: “Listen”. As I sit still more often and “listen” I am learning so much more about myself. My listening is becoming my saving Grace amidst a busy, yet wonderful life, which becomes more meaningful as I “Listen to myself” more often.
What are your inner heart and mind telling you right now? Are you listening to yourself?
